Depending on your settings, participants can make choices about how their pictures look both before and after they're captured.
Where to set these up: You can turn editing tools on or off and configure them from your preset settings in the HALO app or on the online dashboard. Changes sync between the two. The exceptions are the layout and overlay options participants choose from, which come from your layouts. You set those up in the in-app Design Panel. Learn more in HALO App Picture Customizations.
The steps below describe the app. On the dashboard, the same settings are on the Edit Tools settings card in the Experience Designer. The dashboard looks a little different, but the settings work the same way. See Edit Tools.
Not all tools are available on all plans. See the feature availability chart at the end.
Pre-capture tools
These options appear after participants tap to start and before their picture is captured. You can also make them available after capture as editing tools.
Multiple layouts
Participants can choose from four layout types: 1x1 (single photo), GIF, Live GIF, and Rebound.
Multiple overlays (Core and up)
Let participants choose from a selection of overlays before taking their photo.
Background Replacement (Core and up)
On plans that support multiple backgrounds per preset, participants can choose their background. A green or blue backdrop improves accuracy and image quality. See the Background Replacement Guide.
Glam
Glam smooths wrinkles and blemishes. You set the default style and strength in advance. There are two styles:
Glam is optimized for lighter skin tones.
Glam More is optimized for darker skin tones.
We recommend also turning on Glam as a post-capture tool so participants can choose the style and strength that work best for them.
Post-capture tools
These tools appear after the photos are taken. Some offer more customization depending on your plan.
To turn on post-capture tools:
In your preset settings, open the Photo Editing panel.
Tap Manage Tools.
Turn tools on or off using the arrow icons or by dragging them.
Drag and drop tools to change their order.
A Retake button is always available, even if every other tool is turned off.
Layout
Let participants switch between available layout types. Options are limited by how many frames were captured. For example, a 1x3 strip can't be created from a single photo.
To configure, open the Photo Editing panel, tap Edit in the Layout row, and move the layouts you want into the Selected column.
Overlays and Background Replacement
When you use these as pre-capture tools, you can also turn them on as post-capture tools.
Glam
Let participants adjust the Glam style and strength. There's nothing else to configure.
Crop
Let participants change the crop type. There's nothing else to configure.
GIF speed
For GIF layouts only. Participants can speed up or slow down playback. There's nothing else to configure.
Rearrange
Let participants change the frame order in multi-frame layouts. There's nothing else to configure.
Props
Props use face detection to size and position themselves automatically. Choose from our library of free, pre-made prop packs, or add custom props on Plus and up. If no face is detected, the Props tool is turned off.
To configure, use either method:
In the Photo Editing panel, move props into the Selected column.
In the Props panel, browse prop packs. Every prop in a pack is selected by default, so deselect any you don't want before saving.
Stickers (Plus and up)
Participants can drag, drop, and resize stickers on their layout. To configure, upload your sticker files in the Stickers panel.
Margin color
Let participants change the margin color of their layout. This tool is turned off if your layout has no margins.
To configure:
Open the Photo Editing panel and tap Edit in the Color row.
Turn default colors on or off using the arrows or by dragging.
Tap the plus icon to add custom colors with the color wheel or a hex code.
Drawing (Plus and up)
Let participants draw freehand on their photo.
Colors: in the Photo Editing panel, tap Edit in the Drawing row. Manage colors the same way as margin colors.
Drawable area: in the Drawing panel, below Photo Editing, tap Choose Area to limit where participants can draw. You can also add an optional custom prompt.
Set up drawable areas in the app rather than on the dashboard, since the area is drawn against your layout.
Filters
Let participants apply warm, cool, or black-and-white effects. To configure, open the Photo Editing panel, tap Edit in the Filters row, and move the filters you want into the Selected column.
Tips
Limit each event to one to three editing tools so guests aren't overwhelmed and sessions stay quick.
Tools that aren't compatible with your settings or layouts are turned off automatically.
Be careful combining crop or layout edits with custom graphics. Test thoroughly to make sure logos and overlays work across every option you've turned on.
