Printer Types

Consumer Printers

"Consumer” printers are designed for photo printing and come AirPrint compatible out-of-the-box, so the setup is very easy!

Consumer printers are more affordable but have slower printing speeds.

Dye-Sublimation Printers

Dye-sublimation printers are designed for photo printing for professionals. These printers are more expensive and have much faster print speeds.

This kind of printer must be paired with wireless print server software before that they can be used with iPads and Simple Booth apps.

Recommended Consumer Printers

Epson PictureMate

The Epson PictureMate is an inkjet printer that supports 4x6” and 5x7” photo paper. The PictureMate can print in about 75 seconds.
The Epson PictureMate 400 is AirPrint compatible.

Other Options

This page on Apple’s website lists all AirPrint printers, please be sure to reference that list if you don’t plan to use one of our recommendations.

Just about any printer that is dedicated to printing pictures (rather than documents and pictures) would be a great fit.

Recommended Professional Printers

Dye-sublimation printers are expensive, but if you are using Simple Booth professionally it will be a good investment. The difference in print speed between these printers (as little as 30 seconds) and the consumer printers we recommend will be noticeable at your events.

The long term costs for your media (paper and ink) will be lower for this kind of printer over the consumer printers.

Some dye-sub printers can also cut your photo strips for you!

Recommended Brands

We recommend DNP or HiTi brand dye-sublimation printers.
