Transport participants anywhere with our chroma key (commonly referred to as green screen) feature. A green or blue backdrop is required, and adjusting the lighting and taking test shots is an important part of using this feature!

Chroma key is included on the Core, Plus, Pro, & Select plans.

Enabling Chroma Key

Enable chroma key from your online dashboard; chroma key backgrounds cannot be uploaded directly to the app.

Chroma key will be disabled by default; enable it using the checkbox to the left of the panel's title.

You will be prompted to upload your background as soon as chroma key is enabled, and the feature will automatically disable if no background is present.

Specify green or blue for your backdrop. Green is highly recommended whenever possible; it is much more likely participants will be wearing something blue, causing your digital background to bleed onto their clothes.

Chroma Key Sizing

Sizing is straightforward and only depends on your layout's crop or orientation. Learn more in our design guide.

Event Setup

Getting set up properly with your lighting and backdrop is the most important part of a successful experience with green screen!

Backdrop Recommendations

We suggest using a cloth backdrop that is wrinkle resistant to ensure a smooth canvas. Here are some suggestions:

Lighting Recommendations

It is important to have a light source. Our HALO lighting is a great solution that works very well with our green screen feature, or you might consider something more like our DIY recommendations.

Although they are not necessary, you may be able to achieve better results by introducing fill lights to the side.

Setup Recommendations

Give yourself plenty of time to make these adjustments, especially during your first few times setting green screen up!

  • Make sure your backdrop is smooth. Any wrinkles or folds in the fabric will be noticeable on the final results. Along the same lines, avoid any shadows or highlights on the backdrop.

  • Adjust the brightness of your lights as well as the camera exposure in your app. It is a good idea to think about changing both of these at the same time in order to make your background appear flawless, while avoiding over- or under-exposed pictures.

  • Make sure participants aren't standing too close to the backdrop. If they are too close, green or blue hues may reflect onto their clothing or lighter hair and will cause your background to bleed.

You may want to mark a spot on the ground that directs guests where to stand.

  • Keep an eye on your Gallery. If any adjustments need to be made after your event starts you'll be able to see it here.
